Job Title: Cedar Specialist
Location: Remote (based in US or Canada)
Duration: Contract
Salary: Hours and compensation are based on a rate of $45/hour and estimated at $70,000 USD/year (average of approximately 130 hrs. per month).
Who Are We?
The Western Red Cedar Lumber Association (aka WRCLA / Real Cedar) is a non-profit association founded in 1954. We are known as the voice of the Western Red Cedar industry representing over 130 members consisting of manufacturers, distributors, and supply chain partners.
Your Role
The role of this “in-market” Cedar Specialist” position is to support and advance, the mandate of the WRCLA and drive WRC sales and value by:
- Increasing WRC’s awareness
- Inspiring its consideration
- Making it easier to specify, purchase, and use.
Reporting Structure
The Cedar Specialist position reports directly to the Managing Director of the Association, while working very closely with other Market and Technical Representatives.
Responsibilities
- Offer technical information and support to architects/specifiers, builders/contractors, supply-chain distributors and retailers, and consumers.
- Respond in a timely manner to request for technical sourcing information and product samples.
- Conduct training and educational sessions in person, or online to architects, distributors, retailers, and member companies.
- Participate in the preparation and review of promotional and technical information such as:
- Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
- Projects
- Newsletters
- Social media
- Print ads
- Literature
- Identify and attend tradeshows and industry events that effectively raise the profile and awareness of Western Red Cedar.
- Provide monthly reports of key performance indicators, including calls, tradeshow activity, training sessions, and member visits/support.
- Complete interim reports as required by the funders. (Currently 3 per year).
- Represent the WRCLA on industry related market access issues, such as WUI fire code and regional building code requirements.
- Promote WRCLA membership to producers, remanufactures, distributors retailers, and other affiliates.
- Participate in regular reviews and communication as required by the Managing Director.

- Excellent communication skills – oral and written.
- Self-starter possessing effective, organizational, and time management skills.
- Team oriented with the ability to lead and accept responsibility.
- Must display tact, diplomacy, maturity, judgement, and imagination.
- Knowledge of social media, tools, and technologies.
Education
- University degree is preferred.
Experience
- Minimum five years of lumber/building products industry experience.
- Experience with Western Red Cedar preferred.
This contractor position is funded through March 31, 2025, but will be reviewed and renewed on an annual basis.
